Acquiring Consent for Resident Data

Supporting data driven decision making in retrofit delivery and strengthening resident engagement are not two separate agendas. When integrated effectively, each strengthens the other and creates a more holistic, transparent retrofit process.

The connections between these approaches were explored at our most recent Damp and Mould Sensor Working Group, delivered in partnership with LOTI.

Damp and Mould Sensor Working Group

This working group is looking at how damp and mould sensors can be installed at scale through the Social Housing Fund Strategic Partnership, delivered by Warmer Homes London.

Installing sensors at this scale has the potential to both give social landlords the tools to proactively identify damp and mould conditions, and assure residents that any retrofit work is having no adverse impacts on damp and mould levels. By aligning data from the sensors with other data streams being collected by WHL, including energy use data and information around building stock, we can begin to develop case studies and archetypes specific to delivering retrofit measures in London.

Resident Engagement Workshop

During the workshop, attendees journey mapped the retrofit process and thought about moments of high and low trust: when are residents engaged? When are they skeptical?

Using our Resident First Retrofit Toolkit as a framework, we explored what tools and resources are needed at each stage to build confidence in the retrofit process and strengthen transparency around data. This could be developing awareness for teams around where residents might need further support, or help to explain GDPR in simple, accessible terms.

What's next?

At the workshop, participants gave valuable feedback on how Warmer Homes London can continue supporting the working group to take this work forward: this included practical case studies, customisable templates for resident engagement around data, and

These insights will shape the upcoming sessions of the Sensor Working Group, and feed directly into the resources developed by our Retrofit Enabling Services as we work together to remove barriers to retrofit delivery across London.
